CANGIG COUNTRY SINGING COMPETITION - 2010
Hello all and thank you for getting involved with the Cangig Country Singing Competition. Many of you who aren't involved can consider this as an invitation to participate as a judge, advertiser or sponsor. I know it appears a little late, but not too late. We have until the end of June to get this thing completed and still there are places signing up to get involved. I'll know as soon as today if the Kingston Legion #561 and the Carleton Place Branch will be involved. And two organizers in the Oshawa region are very interested.
Please Note that this is a not-for-profit event as all revenues go to prizes. This will open some advertising opportunities.
Here's how it lines up so far:
Ottawa Valley - Barrhaven, Quyon, and hopefully, Carleton Place, and South Eastern Ontario including Kingston, Napanee and Belleville will each stage a 3-day competition at various venues on various dates. Some are running it over a course of 3-weeks, and some over the course of 1-week.
Night #1 - Qualifying Rounds - Both Juniors and Open divisions will have one night only to qualify for a callback at each venue. That is why we're really pushing that date right now. Junior registration fee is $15.00, and $25.00 for Open competitors. All of these monies go to cover cash prizes and awards.
Night #2 - Callbacks - this is where we whittle it down to a number of finalists who will compete in the venue finals. A min. of 5-competitors and a maximum of 10 in both divisions will move on to the venue finals.
Night #3 - Finals - Competitors will perform classic country with a live band. The 1st and 2nd place winners from each venue will move on to their regional finals.
Ottawa Valley Finals - are scheduled to be held the last week in June on a date yet to be determined at Greenfield's Pub in Barrhaven.
Kingston/Napanee/Quinte - The winners at each venue in the region will compete in this region finals to be held on Thursday night July 8th at the Country Roads Music Festival.
Arrangements will be made with Oshawa and Peterborough regions if they choose to get involved.
Competition finals - will be held at the Country Roads Music Festival, Saturday July 10th at 10:00am for the Junior finals and 1:30pm for the open division. A maximum of three and a minimum of 2 representatives from each division, in each region move on to the finals.
Prizes will include $1000.00 to the Open winner and $500.00 to the Junior winner. Both will recieve 1-day of studio time from studios yet to be announced and dependant on winners living region. There will also be performances on major classic country music events like Marmora Country Jamboree, Flinton Country & Bluegrass Jamboree, Shawville Country Jamboree, Country Roads Music Festival, and more. They also receive a trophy. 2nd place prizes will be determined by competiton revenues.
Each venue will provide musicians to perform at their respective finals.
3-judges of some distinction must be provided at each location for each round. I can assist with that if necessary.
